Global Specialty IT provides support and operations for all global specialty lines including Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), Liberty Mutual Surety (LMS), and A&H (Accident and Health) across 19 countries, through one unified IT team.
Liberty Mutual Global Specialty IT, Architecture is actively searching for a Principal Software Developer to join the team. In this position, you will support technologists and architects during design and construction of next generation of IT solutions. This position will provide you with many challenges and opportunities to grow.
Provides technical consulting on complex to highly complex projects. Devises or modifies procedures to solve medium to highly complex problems. Leads projects or subprojects of medium to high technical complexity and responsible for directing and monitoring the work of team members. Responsible for system analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation. Responsible for quality assurance review. Provides coaching and guidance to team.

Performs complex to highly complex source code development

Performs Quality Assurance architecture and design guide review.

Contributes complex to highly complex technical alternatives.

Conducts complex to highly complex impact analysis.

Develops complex to highly complex component design.

Provides complex to highly complex system/application architecture.

Develops Build and Deployment guide.

Develops guidelines and standards.

Seek opportunities for improvement and innovation.

Mentor developers using hands on skills

Lead development of prototypes and PoCs to demonstrate new ideas or illustrate use of new technologies to solve business problems

Qualifications:

Bachelor''s or Master''s degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience, technical degree preferred. Generally 8 years of professional experience.

Thorough knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, methodologies.

Thorough knowledge of diverse technologies and new technical architecture principles and concepts.

Thorough understanding of layered systems architectures and layered solutions and designs.

Expert knowledge of at least one programming language: (Ruby on Rails, .Net or Java); ability to develop on multiple platforms.

Thorough knowledge of a business function(s) and I/T industry business issues; extensive knowledge of business operations, strategies and objectives.

Strong negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills; presentation skills.

Familiar with web application security topics such as SAML, SSL, etc

Experienced with modern design patterns

Some knowledge of new and emerging technologies (e.g., HTML5/CSS3/JS, JSON, jQuery, AngularJs, KnockoutJS, SOAP, REST, MongoDB etc.)

Understand and have some experience with REST/Service Oriented Architecture

Demonstrate understanding behind cross browser concerns and its impact on web application architecture

Experience working in an iterative or agile development environment

Coaching and hands on mentoring skills supported by experience

Experience in developing rich internet applications and single web page applications using RESTful services, JSON, and/or WebSockets is a plus

Exposure to building multi-language and global solutions is a plus

In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles.
