Liberty Mutual Global Specialty IT is actively searching for a Senior IT Project Manager. Global Specialty IT provides support and operations for all global specialty lines including Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), Liberty Mutual Surety (LMS), across 19 countries, through one unified IT team. In this position, you will oversee the planning and implementation of more than one complex I/S project. Projects pertain to the delivery of timely, quality IT services and/or relate to improving business effectiveness or efficiency. Manage project scope, schedule and budget for the project. Provide significant input into creation of project budget and manages to it. Lead teams which are brought together for the duration of the project and work with matrixed or administrative managers to ensure resources are managed appropriately. Function independently with little to no supervision or guidance. Stakeholders are primarily Sr. Managers or Executives.
Responsibilities:
Works in tandem with management to achieve corporate objectives by directing and leading several IT projects or a large scale IT project with defined beginning and end. Projects managed are more critical, highly complex, and have broader scope and have more impact than those managed by an IT Project Manager.
Responsible for managing production support and enhancement initiatives
Partners with project sponsor to define project objectives, scope, schedule, and budget. Establishes project charter and plan, including success criteria.
Oversees the evaluation of business and system requirements and project related research on business and technical trends and dependencies.
Oversees the development, implementation and execution of multiple (or large scale) project plans; ensures scope, schedule, and budget are established and met for projects and assignments.
Leads project meetings and manages team members to ensure objectives are achieved within prescribed timeframe and budget. Assesses project risks and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction levels.
Ability to understand and effectively communicate business and technical objectives as they relate to project goals.
Reviews, evaluates, formulates and executes project plans, schedules and budgets.
Tracks and executes project progress with respect to baselined time, budget and target versus actual business results.
Communicates progress to top management and modifies schedules as required.
Negotiates with clients, staff and outside vendors as required.
Establishes key performance indicators and acceptable limits.
Applies effective project management methodologies and control techniques.
Keeps informed of advances in the IT and Project Management industries.
May recommend changes to the infrastructure consistent with achieving broad objectives.
Provides input to and may assist in preparation of staff performance evaluations.
Provides coaching, mentoring and guidance to project team members and others in Project Management roles.
Oversees the transformation of common system requirements into designs for shared and reusable services to ensure system solutions are developed according to architecture, technology and standards.
Performs related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements:
Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and at least eight, typically ten or more years of diverse experience in multiple areas of technology of which at least four years in a leadership position, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Requires ability to manage projects from conception to successful implementation.
Requires solid project management skills, ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a cross-functional environment.
Requires excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and team building skills, business judgment, and proven expertise in directing the efforts of a technical staff.
In-depth knowledge of business functions and extensive understanding of business operations, strategies and objectives.
In-depth knowledge of project management life cycle, methodologies and support tools (e.g., MS Project, ABT, Peregrine, Clarity, etc.). In-depth knowledge of project management concepts, practices and techniques (Project Management certification preferred).
Strong Microsoft tools expertise in Office apps such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Strong ability to promote a team environment. Strong communication, facilitation, presentation and consensus building skills.
