Overview
Member of optical fiber quality and fusion splice team at TE SubCom Newington, NH. Performs the critical task of coordinating fiber quality for the site as well as focusing on the fusion splice process, equipment, new product introduction, support for current products, splice software control/reporting. Responsibilities & Qualifications
Specific Job Responsibilities (But not limited to);
Optical Fiber Quality; provide fiber handling training for new and existing employees. Document fiber handling and evaluation process. Work with Design to resolve and document fiber defect conditions. Evaluate or support evaluation of fiber conditions in Newington facility. Work with Component Engineering to continuously improve supplier fiber quality through improved documentation, reporting and vendor feedback.
Focus on the fusion splice process; provide initial training for new employees who will become Splice Operators. Work with Design to change / update the single fiber fusion process. Provide lead role for splice equipment yield improvement. Work with Design to select/qualify vendor for new splice equipment. Purchase infrastructure, as required, to support splice process such as splice benches, splice tents, microscopes, etc.
New product introduction; review Work Instructions to make sure fiber handling is optimized. Review Inspection Check Lists to verify fiber is inspected at appropriate times. Review specifications and procure any splice fixtures required. Enter new product codes in Splice Network. Create and enter new fiber combinations in Splice Network
Software control of Splice Network; Supports tools development to input product splice information into Splice Network, verify splice network updates and changes to splice stations. Develop specific report criteria. Data reporting including First Pass Yields.
General Job Responsibilities;
Support SubCom EH&S and Process Improvements Policies. Maintain Strong Process Understanding in the Area of Responsibility. Process Development, Implementation and Control. Interface with: All functional organizations, design team and External Supplier.
Support Non-conforming Product Disposition. New Product Development. Production Support. Qualification of Design Changes. Support Repair and Returns. Continuous Process Improvement. New Product and Splice Programs Introduction.
Qualifications:
Education: BS in Material/Mechanical/Electrical Eng. (Emphasis on fiber/fiber optics) or the equivalent.
Specific Skills: Knowledge of fiber , specialty fiber (Erbium), Single and Mass Fusion splicing, Data Base, splice data analysis, fiber defects and splicing data analysis, shop control system (Oracle), splice program automation, splice equipment computer control. Excellent knowledge of equipment preventive maintenance procedures. Highly motivated, organized, with excellent attention to details especially in documentation, data analysis, and splice programs set up.
Strong communication skills, team leadership skills and ability to provide technical leadership.
Strong ability to work with Design, suppliers, Manufacturing engineers and shop employees.
Experience in new product introduction to manufacturing especially new splicing programs.
